Puerto Rico Study Tour
December 11-20, 2009  - University of Washington

We are looking forward to gaining a broad understanding of business concepts, growing industries and the role of multi-national corporations in Puerto Rico. A trip to two cities in Puerto Rico will allow UW graduate students to gain a rich appreciation of the diverse industries flourishing in Puerto Rico ranging from historically entrenched industries like agriculture to newer industries like high-tech manufacturing while learning how large MNCs impact business in Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico’s legal and political ties with the United States make it easier for American companies to set up and get to work on the island. English is taught in the school system, and most of the work force speaks English and Spanish. The currency is the dollar, and the U.S. Postal Service serves the island. Its 3.8 million residents are U.S. citizens. Puerto Rico is an interesting amalgam of Spanish and American cultures which impact business norms and competitive environments in unique ways.
