The workshops will serve as a unique forum for the exchange of ideas among the participants. The workshop leaders offer: • numerous insights into the relationship between foreign language, culture and international business; • discussions on how to develop and teach a business language curriculum; • exploration of the resources available in this new and fast-changing field; • introductions to the business language examinations (i.e., Prüfung Wirtschaftsdeutsch International (PWDP); • ways to structure a business language program for varying needs; and • instruction in the use of the internet.

Feb 23, 2009 Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition - University of Washington
The Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition (GSEC) is a business plan competition in which students from around the world find creative, commercially sustainable ways to address problems of poverty in the developing world. GSEC participants have a unique opportunity to increase their global awareness and develop their knowledge and understanding of how to take a business plan from inception to implementation with the advice and involvement of a wide base of knowledgeable contributors. Each year GSEC brings 14-16 teams from around the world to UW to compete in a week long series of events, which culminate in the competition rounds. GSEC teams compete for prize money and have the chance to network with potential investors and other social entrepreneurs. GSEC furthers collaborative and interdisciplinary partnerships, builds the skills of future global business leaders, and contributes to the understanding of culture and business practices in other countries.

Global mobility has become a critical component of success for multinational companies relocating employees around the world. These moves face a variety of unique challenges, among them, covering areas such as healthcare, visa/immigration, banking, employee benefit plans, taxes, local and overseas compliances obligations, and other regulatory requirements. A panel of specialists will provide an insight to the many aspects of managing international cross border issues. From assignee selection through to repatriation, this program will equip US companies with practical advice on how to deal with the inevitable challenges that will arise to make them more competitive in the global marketplace. This program will cover a wide variety of topics, but will focus on the practical aspects of mobility management: • Compensation • Immigration • Assess what the current market requires for expatriate benefits • Tax and social security • Repatriation and localization

The Centers for International Business Education and Research (CIBERs) were created under the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988 to increase and promote the nation's capacity for international understanding and economic enterprise. Administered by the U.S. Department of Education under Title VI, Part B of the Higher Education Act of 1965, the CIBER program links the manpower and information needs of U.S. business with the international education, language training, and research capacities of universities across the U.S. Thirty-one universities were designated as centers that serve as regional and national resources to business, students, and academics. Together, the CIBERs form a powerful network focused on improving American competitiveness and providing comprehensive service and programs that help U.S. business succeed in global markets.
